Tax Reform Advice for President’s Task Force

On March 25 President Obama announced the creation of a special task force to review the shortcomings of the U.S. tax system. The group is part of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.  Headed by Paul Volcke, the task force has come to be known as the Volcker task force and is charged with presenting Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner with a report and recommendations by December 4.

Tax Analysts, a nonprofit publisher of tax infomration, has released Toward Tax Reform: Recommendations for President Obama’s Task Force.  The book is a complilation of tax policy and reform essays by 32 prominent tax experts — lawyers, economists, and academics from across the political spectrum.

Each essayist was presented with a hypothetical scenario: Imagine having five minutes alone with task force members to advise them on what features of the tax system most need fixing and how you would change them.

The result was 32 conicse essays on a wide range of federal tax policy issues is an interesting read for tax professionals and citizen taxpayers.
