“This session will explore the recent revisions to the guidelines of P.L. 86-272 as recently adopted by the Multistate Tax Commission (MTC). The federal law was enacted to protect taxpayers from state income taxes when their sole activity in the state is limited to soliciting the sale of tangible personal property. Due to the rise of the digital economy and state pushback, taxpayer protection under P.L. 86-272 has been steadily eroding. The panelists will examine the impact of these revisions, whereby a business could lose protection by solely engaging with customers through the internet.”
